How to choose slugs

Slugs are for reach. A high ballistic coefficient keeps velocity and energy going where a diabolo gives up, so you get less wind drift and real authority at 75 to 100 yards out of a regulated .25 or .30.

Two numbers do most of the work. Weight comes first, because heavier slugs carry more energy but need more pressure to stabilize, and a lightly tuned rifle will just spray them. As a rule of thumb, run slugs toward the heavier side of what your regulator is comfortable with.

Head size is the other one. Barrels vary by a few thousandths, and a slug that seals one bore will rattle down the next. Where a listing offers several head sizes, a sampler pack is the cheapest insurance you can buy. Your zero will also shift when you change projectile, so confirm it on paper before you take a slug load hunting.
