Slugs are for reach. Their high ballistic coefficient keeps velocity and energy where diabolos give up — expect flatter drift in wind and real authority at 75–100+ yards from a regulated .25 or .30.
Two numbers matter. Weight: heavier slugs carry more energy but need more pressure to stabilize — a light-tuned rifle will spray them. As a rule of thumb, run slugs on the heavier side of your regulator's comfortable range. Head size: barrels vary by a few thousandths, and a slug that seals one bore rattles down another. If a listing offers multiple head sizes, a sampler pack is the cheapest group insurance you can buy.
Zero shifts when you switch projectile — confirm on paper before you take a slug load hunting.
