Diabolo or slug?

They solve different problems. A diabolo pellet is drag-stabilized by its wasp waist and flared skirt — superbly accurate and forgiving inside about 50 yards, cheaper per shot, and gentle on backstops. For backyard practice, paper and close pest work, diabolos are the right answer almost every time.

A slug is a solid, spin-stabilized projectile with a far higher ballistic coefficient: it sheds much less velocity, drifts less in wind, and delivers noticeably more energy at 75–100+ yards. The trade: slugs demand more power to stabilize — they pair best with regulated .25 and .30 rifles running heavier tunes — and each barrel has preferences, so buy a sampler before committing to tins.

Match weight to your power plant: heavier projectiles carry more energy but need pressure behind them. When in doubt, start with mid-weight diabolos and step up only when your groups say so.
