How to choose a magnifier

A magnifier turns your red dot into a two-range sight. Dot alone for speed up close, 3x behind it when you need to identify something or shoot precisely past 50 yards. Flipping it in or out of the way takes half a second and nothing needs re-zeroing.

Two specs decide whether it'll work with your dot. Optical height has to match the red dot's centerline or the view clips, so look for same-height mounts. And the dot itself should be 2–3 MOA, since magnification turns a 6 MOA dot into an imprecise blob.

Eye relief is worth a look last. Somewhere around 2.5 to 3 inches keeps the picture comfortable across different stocks and cheek welds, and a quick-detach base lets you leave the magnifier at home on days you're only shooting close.
